What We’ve Done Together

Meat the Need: 1,190 packages • 1,251.9 pounds • 4,760 meals supported • 3 community deliveries

Local farms, processors, community supporters, and food-access partners made this possible.
Building on this work, CFA is developing new ways for local households to access local meat, eggs, and dairy.

Why We're Doing This

We believe everyone should have access to nourishing, high-quality food. Through the Chenango Food Alliance, we work with farmers and community members to get locally raised meat to food pantries that serve our neighbors.
This isn’t about charity — it’s about showing up for one another.

Locally raised. Locally shared.

Chenango Food Alliance (CFA) is a project of Catskills Agrarian Alliance (CAA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that receives and administers donations for this project. CFA begins by partnering with local farms to purchase animals or accept them as donations. These farms, rooted in our community, provide hogs, lambs, and steers that are raised locally and offered with the intention of feeding nearby families.

Real food, real connection.

Once the animals are secured, the meat is processed at USDA-inspected facilities to ensure safety and quality. From there, we collaborate with local food pantries to get the meat directly into the hands of those who need it most—helping bridge the gap between local farms and local tables with care and integrity.

Why It Matters

"
1 in 6 households relies on food pantries — and most don’t get enough protein.

Why It Matters

Protein is often the hardest thing for food pantries to keep on hand.

Most donations come around the holidays, leaving gaps the rest of the year.

Together — farms, donors, and neighbors — we help close the gap.

Local Matters

Grounded in Community

This initiative is intentionally hyperlocal. We’re not aiming to grow big — we’re focused on building strong relationships right here in Chenango County and neighboring rural areas. It’s about feeding our own, together.

“Big change starts small —

and stays close to home.”

The Power of Local

Every meat donation stays in the area where it was raised. Every dollar supports local farms and families. Every act of participation helps strengthen the future we all share.

“When it stays local, everyone grows stronger.”
